DeLeon remembers his parents, his life in Rhodes, and his immigration to America. His father, Haim DeLeon, led religious services for Ozar Dalim, taught Rhodes music to Reverend David J. Behar, and remained active in what became Congregation Ezra Bessaroth. DeLeon also speaks of the early years of the synagogue and remembers the help Dora Cohen gave to the community as one of the few English speaking and literate Sephardic women. He describes the naturalization process and discrimination against the Sephardic community. He talks about the homes, entertainment, and religious life of the community. He discusses important organizations: Junior Sephardic League, Settlement House, Seattle Progressive Fraternity, Sholem Aliechem, and Ahavat Shalom. DeLeon describes the differences between the two Sephardic congregations, Bikur Holim and Ezra Bessaroth, the difficulties of Sephardic Talmud Torah, and the organization of Settlement House. He also remembers the Progressive Fraternity and its Glee Club, organizing the Snowball Informal event for the Young Hebrews Literary Club, and his work in the Jewish Federated Fund.
